Why see John Mellencamp?

The Legendary Roots Rocker

Singer-songwriter pioneer John Mellencamp continues to tour playing music from his back catalog as well as more recent albums, including 2022's Strictly A One-Eyed Jack. In addition to his musical career, Mellencamp is also an accomplished painter, actor, and film director. Don't miss the 'Voice of the Heartland' when he takes to the stage in your town this year!

Mellencamp's career stretches back some over thirty years, and he has molded his brand of dusky heartland rock to every new genre and style that comes along. From Springsteen-Esque anthems to stripped down, T-Bone Burnett produced country songs, his sharp and simple lyrical style that is unerringly able to pinpoint the mood of the nation has continued to shine through. Among his best-known tracks are 'Jack and Diane', which spent four weeks at Number 1, and 'Hurts So Good'. Along the way, he's been awarded a Grammy and been inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Mellencamp in Charlotte

I have loved John Mellencamp since I was a teenager and still love his music. At 68 it’s impressive that he is still touring. With that being said, it will be the last time I spend mo eh to see him. Why? Let me put it this way....one week before seeing Mellencamp, I went to see Eric Church....there is a huge difference in the feeling I got between the two shows. Eric Church looks as if he is having fun performing and interacts with fans and is just down right enjoyable to watch. Mellencamp? Not so much. To me, it seems as if it’s a job, Yes I k ownit really is his job and that’s fine but I just didn’t like the feeling I got. We were in the 6th row somI was able to watch him closely. I’m glad he didn’t discuss politics as he and I are on different ends of the spectrum in that regard. I didnt appreciate that after his song about injustice, he kneeled. It’s his prerogative and I get it, Injust didn’t appreciate it. Do I love his music? Absolutely! Good show not a great show. ... Read more

Legend

Mellencamp is one of those performers that is a true artist. He is a legend and should be on your list to see live if you haven't already. He's a great storyteller, and he still brings high energy to his performance. He plays a mix of well-known its and lesser-known gems, altho for a lifetime fan like me, was appreciated. I loved that I knew every song he played, but that not everybody in the audience did. Still, on the popular favorites, he had everyone singing along. Also, for those complaining about the film clip at the start of the concert, hm, maybe you should consider why. It was not just random clips. Every single one of those clips features a line or phrase that can be found in one of his songs. They were literally the inspirations that helped forge his music. They were absolutely appreciated by those of us who know that every choice an artist makes has a specific purpose. It amazes me who quick people just reject something they don't understand instead of maybe taking a minute to consider why. IT's that kind of small mindedness that Mellencamp has been waging a campaign against through his music for decades. Truly legendary. ... Read more

getting better with age

loved the old movie clips (never had seen Fugitive Kind/ Charlie5) and the show was better than expected. Loved the story about his gramma who called him buddy. His backing band was superb and John knows how to run the show to perfection. The only oddity to me is why can't he add When Jesus Left Birmingham to the setlist at least once just for Birmingham? According to the setlist website, he's only played it 5 times ever- all in 1994, in PA(2) MA, IL and Quebec. Hopefully he will add that as a surprise next time. ... Read more
