Why See Charlotte Symphony Orchestra - Rite of Spring?
A rite of passage
Infamous in the world of classical music for its riotous 1913 premiere, Stravinsky's avant-garde masterpiece was a turning point for composition with it's daring and unforgettable evocation of Russian folk dances and ancient traditions. Joining forces with the Charlotte Ballet and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, this special recital of Stravinsky's 20th-century icon will delight all audiences be they first time or seasoned symphony go-ers.
The evening will also feature Stravinsky's Apollon Musagete. Written between 1927 and 1928 for a ballet choreographed by frequent collaborator George Balachine, the piece is notable for its Baroque and neoclassical melodies that tell the tale of Apollo, the Greek God of Music as he is visited by the three Muses.
