Dance & Ballet

Going on tour!

Following the announcement that Matthew Bourne's lauded ballet would make its US premiere in Los Angeles this fall, there will also be additional dates in Washington D.C and Charlotte, N.C. This utterly spell-binding dance adaptation of the classic British movie by Powell and Pressburger will draw both movie and ballet fans alike, starring the original lead, Cordelia Braithwaite. The winner of two Olivier Awards, this latest Bourne triumph examines the tragic price of fame, obsession and possessiveness. Journey with dancer Vicky Page when she comes to Belk Theatre in Charlotte , NC , Closed October 22, 2017

This stunning work was Matthew Bourne's first new production in four years, premiering at London's world-famous Sadler's Wells in December 2016 to sell-out performances and universal praise.

What to expect

This electrifying production reunited Bourne with some of his frequent collaborators; Lez Brotherston, lighting designer Paule Constable and sound designer Paul Groothuis. The brand-new score has been arranged byTerry Davies, from music by Bernard Herrmann.

Telling the story of a hopeful young dancer who hopes to make it into ballet legend, The Red Shoes draws parallels with the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale of the same name. Determined to be a star, Victoria is coached by the demanding impresario Boris Lermontov, who pushes her forward at every turn, eventually becoming possessive and jealous of her. When Victoria falls in love with the company composer, she is forced into an impossible position, which leads to heart-breaking and eerily preminiscient tragedy.
